These days it’s often said that you can’t get much for less than a hundred dollars. Our friends over in India however, can get their hands on a phone with a larger battery capacity than a number of flagship devices here in the West. That’s because Swipe has just launched a new device called the Marathon which will retail for RS 4,599 (which is roughly $75 or so). It’s presumably called the Marathon because it’s not a device about getting their first, but rather a device that will keep on going. With a 4,000 mAh battery under the hood, a lot of users should struggle to empty it within a day.
For this sort of price, you’re not getting anything too exciting, which is reflected by the 4.5-inch qHD display (that’s 960 x 540 folks) and the no-name 1 Ghz dual-core CPU with just 512MB of RAM. There is 4GB of expandable storage here as well though, and with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera things could be much worse at this sort of price. What the Swipe Marathon is to us then is a KitKat-powered device designed to last and last. With a 4,000 mAh battery and a 1 Ghz dual-core CPU that’s hardly a Tegra K1 we wouldn’t be surprised if most users could get a full two days out of this. It is designed for everyday usage, after all.
Elsewhere, there’s support for two SIMs and this guy comes in at 9.5mm thick and weighs just 150g. All-in-all, this isn’t too bad for a device that costs as little as this. Available exclusively from Snapdeal, the Marathon is only available in a white color. For RS 4,599 is there much better out there? Well, probably but if you’re in the market for another device that can just last and last, then this is a decent option as it’s fairly affordable. How good a smartphone it is compared to the Moto G however depends on what you need, but again for this sort of price we can’t expect the Earth now, can we?.
