This year’s Galaxy S5, as pictured above, was a big launch for Samsung, but it wasn’t exactly all that well received. The Galaxy S5 is a great device, we even said as much, but the device wasn’t given the sort of warm reception that previous Galaxy S devices received. With media and fans alike all expressing that Samsung could have done better, it’s clear that the Galaxy S5 was not one of Samsung’s best product launches. Q3 figures, which showed net profit fall by 50%, showed as much. Naturally, there’s a lot resting on the shoulders of the Galaxy S6, which we’re all assuming is to be launched during next year’s Mobile World Congress in February. Now though, a South Korean analyst firm thinks Samsung could launch the device as early as CES 2015, next January.
South Korean publication, Chosun Biz, has cited analysts from Mirae Asset Securities (a South Korean firm) whom believe that the Galaxy S6 could launch during the next CES, which runs January 6th to the 9th, and that a version similar to the Galaxy Note Edge will also be unveiled. This all sounds very unlikely to us, and sounds like Analysts predicting a future that’s unrealistic simply to make a name for themselves. Still, it’s not as crazy as it sounds. Launching the Galaxy S6 so early in the year would give Samsung some real lead time in order to promote the device before launch in the Spring. Of course, there’s also the risk that CES being an event for companies to unveil everything from smartphones to washing machines, Samsung’s Galaxy S6 would look out of place, and Samsung could come off as desperate.
The Galaxy S6, or a device that sounds an awful lot like it, has leaked out a number of times on paper with its specs listed for all to oggle over. According to previous leaks, the Galaxy S6 is to be powered by an Exynos 7420, a 64-bit chip built by Samsung themselves as well as a Snapdragon 810 variant. With 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage, the Galaxy S6 sounds like exactly what you’d expect from Samsung.
My main reservation concerning this latest prediction is that Samsung is a company that makes far more than smartphones and tablets. With their TV line an important money spinner, along with their home appliances, I can’t see Samsung launching a major product like the Galaxy S6 when they want the focus to be on 4K TVs and smart washing machines. Of course, anything’s possible, right?
