Vivo X5 Max is the newly crowned king of thin smartphones. This handset was announced two days ago and is only 4.75mm thin, which is 0.10mm thinner than Oppo’s R5 which carried that title until the X5 Max launched. I don’t know if you can perceive how thin this is for a smartphone, in comparison, HTC One M8 is 9.4mm thick while the Galaxy S5 is 8.1mm thick. I just typed down 2 smartphones that came to mind first in order to put this thickness, or should I say thinness, into perspective. This is crazy thin, and that has its benefits and its drawbacks, of course. Unfortunately, I believe that there are many more drawbacks than benefits here, the major drawback is the small 2,000mAh battery which Vivo managed to implement here. Considering the fact that this handset sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 2,000mAh battery will hardly give you a decent battery life, but we’ll see. The other drawback is of course the thin form itself, I really can’t imagine not breaking that phone by accident, but I haven’t handled the device just yet, so I won’t jump to conclusions just yet. I can also imagine that it’s rather awkward to hold considering how thin it is. The only benefit here, in my humble opinion, is the look of the device, that thin form factor makes it really sleek and, well, cool.
That being said, we’ve stumbled upon the first teardown of this handset. I’m going to list this handset’s specifications, but there are of course additional details that you might pick up from the images down below which might come in handy if you’re thinking of purchasing the X5 Max for your personal use. Anyhow, Vivo X5 Max sports a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) Super AMOLED display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via a MicroSD card up to 128GB). Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 SoC, a 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz is powering on this handset, which ships with an Adreno 405 GPU. As far as cameras go, this handset is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear-facing snapper (Sony IMX214 sensor, F2.0 aperture) and a 5-megapixel (F2.4 aperture). 2000mAh battery comes with the device while Android 4.4 is pre-installed here and it comes with Vivo’s FunTouch 2.0 UI on top of it. The device measures 153.90 — 78.00 — 4.75mm and it comes sporting a dual 4G LTE connectivity.
