Samsung is known for making phones in all shapes and sizes. The Korean giant perhaps believes that there isn’t enough competition to the iPhone 6 Plus, and that’s perhaps why the company will be launching another 5.5-inch phablet, most probably in early 2015. Records show that the device has been imported into India through the past two weeks, for ‘R & D purposes’, and not for sale. Samsung has an R&D wing in India, which is where the devices have been routing.
According to the leak, the phone will have a rather large 5.5-inch display panel. Samsung aren’t shy of embracing the large screen; in fact, although the company is often criticized for lack of inspiration, the Galaxy Note series was the first really to make the large screen mainstream. Coming back to the SM-G430, the 5.5-inch panel on the device will have a 1920 x 1080p full HD resolution, which hints at a possible mid-range nature of the device — high-end ones, after all, have been shipping with QHD displays through the past year or so.
Besides the screen, the only other couple of things known about the SM-G430 are the processor frequency and Android OS version. The former will be 2.5GHz, which makes a strong case for the SoC to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801; after all, the chip was seen on some of the top phones of this year, and it is only natural that it be fitted on mid-range ones for the entirety of next year. About the OS on the device, it’ll unfortunately. be only Android v4.4 KitKat. It is a bit of a shame indeed, but that’s what the user agent profile of the phone says for now; it could very well change by the time the device is ready for launch.
In other Samsung news, the company today revealed the specifications of its first ever Tizen powered smartphone, the Z1. The phone is set to launch in the Indian market, where it is expected to go head on against similarly priced phones from the likes of Xiaomi, Asus, etc.
