In Canada, just as in the U.S., the carriers are trying constantly to steal subscribers from one another. In the U.S., T-Mobile started the ball rolling in trying to shakeup Verizon and AT&T. They stood strong for a while, but AT&T finally gave in and eventually even Verizon caved to some extent. Now they are all reporting they will show fewer profits for the fourth quarter and investors are starting to pull out. Low pricing, promotions and paying money to get subscribers to jump ship are all good for the customers but not the carriers or investors looking for a return on their investments.
The Canadian specials have really been flying around the holidays and it looks as though WIND Mobile is the latest carrier to fire the shot. These offers are called ‘Port-in’ offers and WIND is taking aim squarely at Mobilicity with its latest promo – WIND is offering a $60 credit for those that come over from Mobilicity and join either their WIND 25 or WIND 35 pricing plans. This offer will be good through December 31 and you will receive a $10 credit each month for six months.
Mobilicity is hanging on by a thread and is currently under creditor protection via the courts. As they struggle to keep their remaining 154,900 subscribers from jumping to WIND Mobile’s over 800,000 subscribers, Mobilicity took to the social media and responded to one user who asked: Hey, @mobilicity! I didn’t know you. How about give me a good reason (or discount :P) to switch from @WINDmobile to your service? ;)” Mobilicity answered back: “If you like who you’re with, stay. If you want to change, change. If change, choose us and our $29 deal!” Things started to get ugly after that, so it kind of backfired on them
