Android 5.0 Lollipop Rolling Out to the HTC One M8 Developer Edition

The HTC One M8 Developer Edition was one of our favorite phones from 2014. And since 2013, HTC has been working hard to make sure updates are rolling out quicker and quicker to their devices. They said within 90 days of the source code rolling out to AOSP that the HTC One M8 would have Lollipop. Which means the end of January. Today, the HTC One M8 Developer Edition is getting Android 5.0 Lollipop. Which means we should see it for the carrier variants very soon. As soon as the carriers approve the update. Which may or may not happen in the 90 day time frame, but it is nice to see these updates rolling out rather quickly.

The update is about 584.83MB in size, so it’s a pretty sizeable update. So you’ll want to be sure you are on WiFi unless you have unlimited data, before downloading the update. As that’s going to take a big chunk of data out of your monthly allowance. There doesn’t appear to be much else new in the changelog for Sense, other than some Android 5.0 features. But as soon as more people get the update, I’m sure we’ll get a more detailed changelog.

Here’s the changelog from the update screen on the HTC One M8 “Android 5.0 Lollipop update, Lock screen and notification: New Lollipop UI style with enhanced privacy features, Recent apps: Supporting multiple pages, and Addition of search function within settings.”

It’s definitely great to see HTC rolling out updates this quick. And even better for those that have the HTC One M8 Developer Edition. Now we are just waiting on Technical Approval from the four carriers before those variants start to get their update. Hopefully that doesn’t take too long, let’s not look at history here. That’s just depressing. How many of you have the HTC One M8 Developers Edition? Have you gotten the update? Let us know in the comments down below.
