In the midst of everything that runs on Android TV we have heard about so far at CES 2015, Razer’s recently announced Forge Android TV box with Google Cast technology built-in is certainly something we didn’t see coming. With the rise in Android gaming though through various means like the already available Nexus Player and future Android TV devices, as well as the Fire TV, perhaps we should have expected a legitimate gaming peripheral company(who also makes gaming laptops)to come out with something along those lines.
Razer’s Forge Android TV Box is packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 CPU and an Adreno 420 GPU for the graphics processing, 2GB of RAM, and it’ll allow the user to not only play Android games that are compatible with Android TV, but it also holds a feature to let the user stream games from their PC to the TV connected to the Razer Forge, which apparently isn’t dependent on having a specific GPU type for it to work like we see from the Nvidia Shield products. This more open approach could allow Razer to shine in this area for anyone who is either running a non-compatible Nvidia GPU, or something non-Nvidia entirely. How it will work(quality wise)remains to be seen of course. Thanks to our boots on the ground at CES we were able to get some hands on shots of the Forge, which is coming in at $99, a staggeringly low price for what it offers, but also sensible considering the Nexus Player is $99 as well.
