Samsung made some interesting announcements concerning its new ‘Milk’ Music and Video products. It will be interesting to see just how the Milk products do or if they will go the way of ChatOn…another failed product. Today, Samsung announced they are releasing Milk VR as well as plans to expand their Milk Music and Milk Video products. One of Samsung’s weak spots is trying to gear everything to a strictly Samsung product line – for instance, the Milk VR will provide premium video content , but it will be exclusive to the Galaxy Note 4 and Gear VR.
Samsung also announced that they will stream Milk Music and Milk Video over their Smart TVs…bringing even more customized music and video options to their TVs. John Pleasants, executive vice president, Samsung Media Solutions Center America said, “Samsung is dedicated to delivering impassioned, connected experiences through content and services across devices, including smartphones, tablets and smart TVs. We are excited to bring the music and video experience to even more platforms for our customers to enjoy, and offer customers a glimpse at what’s possible in the brand new realm of immersive mobile video and virtual reality.” One step in the right direction is their announcement that Milk Music will be offered as a streaming web service, meaning that anybody can create an account and access the music discovery service – not just Galaxy owners. This is a way that Samsung could build up some loyal following and possibly even sway some people towards buying a Samsung device.
The Samsung Milk apps have been praised for their elegant design as the user flips through the album cover art. Once logged on to your account on your Smart TV, users can access their personalized station or tuning preferences (much like Pandora) while using their remote control. The Samsung Smart TV Milk Music app is available now on their Smart TVs from model years 2012 to 2014, and all upcoming 2015 models. Milk Video launched November 2014 and is a personalized video discovery service (much like YouTube) where you can collect and share videos. The service already features 50 brand name channels, and this spring will extend itself from mobile to Samsung’s Smart TV Milk Video app.
With Samsung’s Milk VR, they are pioneering high quality consumer VR via their Gear VR. Right now it is exclusive to the Galaxy Note 4 and Gear VR and available immediately bringing 360-degree videos for your viewing excitement. Milk VR is working with top brands and entertainment companies to build up a high quality library of interesting videos for customers to watch.
