Still in need of a new Chromebook? Rather, are you looking to pick up your very first Chromebook? Dell may soon have a new solution for you as they’re reportedly working on a new Chromebook powered by an Intel Bay Trail Processor. The Intel Celeron N2840 Bay Trail CPU to be precise. Things aren’t necessarily official just yet, at least not in the way of announcements, but documentation was discovered about an upcoming Dell Chromebook 11 that comes with an Intel N2840 chip inside. Dell already offers a selection of decent Chromebooks that run on slightly more powerful CPU’s than the Bay Trail, so why put out another Chromebook based on Bay Trail architecture?
Simple. The factor of a lower cost could be driving them to be working on such a laptop, so they could release an option for those looking to snap something up that potentially comes in under the price of their current offerings which start at about $280. There unfortunately aren’t any other details on what this new Chromebook will come with, so although it could end up with the N2840 inside and the same size 11-inch screen, we’re not sure what the resolution could be nor what we can expect for exact pricing or release dates.
As far as other features go, it’s probably safe to say that we’ll see the standard stuff included here like Bluetooth connectivity, likely WiFi 802.11a/c, and it’s also reported that there could be an optional SIM card slot for those who want to connect a data package to the Chromebook for times when no WiFi connection is available. You can also probably expect this new machine to house an SD card slot, come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal SSD storage, and probably an HDMI out port. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Dell release this laptop in one or two colors, although if it’s just one color my bets are Dell choosing Black. Like all Chromebooks, it should also come with plenty of Google Drive cloud storage for a couple of years, which is the main place you’d be storing most of the stuff you use on a Chromebook, so any extra storage is nice. Keep your eyes peeled as we’ll post any more updates we find about this new Chromebook from Dell as they appear.
