Featured: Top 10 Police Scanner Apps For Android

There are many things you can do with an android app these days. For those of you who remember the days of tuning-in on a ham radio to listen to what is happening on your local emergency services frequencies, then you will be happy to know that even this is still possible with the range of police scanner apps currently available at the Play Store. To try and save you some time in going through the lot, we did it for you and here is our pick of ten of the best police scanner apps for android.

Scanner Radio

If you are simply looking for a Police scanner, then kicking off today’s list is Scanner Radio. It cannot get any more simple than this one. Scanner Radio offers listeners live audio from a bunch of police scanners. In fact, this one offers a whole load of other scanners too, including fire, weather and amateur radio. If you are looking for a scanner app with choice then you might want to give this one a go.

Police Scanner 5-0 (FREE)

Police Scanner 5.0 is a bit of an oldie compared to some of the others, but that said, if you are looking for a more established app then maybe this is the one to try. Police Scanner 5-0 offers coverage of more than 2,500 police, fire and rescue feeds. In addition, you can search by region or use your GPS to find the nearest frequencies available to you.

Police Scanner

OK, you got me. This is not really a police scanner app. that said with a name like ‘Police Scanner’ it was difficult to not include this one. If you are just looking for a bit of fun with your friends, then this is the app you try. Police Scanner offers the ability to pretend you are listening to real police, fire and rescue services. Good for a quick prank with your friends.

Chicago Police Radio

Up next is another Police Scanner app although as the name suggests this one is focused in on Chicago. So if you are based in Chicago and fancy listening to what is happening locally then this is the app for you. Alternatively, if you don’t live in Chicago but want to listen in to the daily happenings of Chicago PD, then maybe you should give this one a try.

Scanner Radio California FREE

Similar to the last one, this next police scanning app is again highly area focused as this is a California based app. However, unlike the Chicago one there’s probably no Police force in the world more famous than the LAPD and as such deserves an app all to itself. So if you want to know what’s happening on the crime front in LA (or anywhere else in California for that matter) then this is the one to go for.

HD radio police scanner

HD Radio Police Scanner is again another joke app, but once more, this one dies have to be included on the list as it does reach all the requirements. However, unlike what you are probably expecting, this app does offer a police scanner, albeit an animated one on your screen. If you want to feel like you are using a police scanner then this is the app for you. If you were looking for the real deal then move along people…nothing to see here.

OPD Ontario Police Scanner

OK, if you are Canadian then you might be thinking this app is for you. Especially as we have already covered Chicago and California scanner apps. Well, sorry folks. This is not the Canadian Ontario but instead the other one. The one in California. As such if you are not based in Ontario, CA (which is pretty much all of us) then you might not be that interested in giving this one a go. That said if you fancy some real life CA small town based police listening then OPD is the one for you.

MyScanner-Police Scanner Radio

If all this talk of Chicago, California and Ontario is getting you down then don’t worry. MyScanner-Police Scanner Radio is back to basics and offers users a choice of over 3000 scanner stations to choose from. As well as police frequencies you can also listen to fire, paramedic, aviation, marine and rail channels. If you find one you like then this can be saved to ‘favorites’ for easy navigation back again. On one last note, it is worth pointing out there are some reports of this app not always working properly. So keep that in mind if it doesn’t work on your first attempt.

Airport Scanner

Just before we finish up the list, it was time to throw one more fun app into the mix. Again, this is not exactly a police scanning app but if you feel like being law enforcement for the day, then you might want to give Airport Scanner a go. This is a pretty straight forward game, where you monitor an X-Ray scanner at the airport making sure no nasties get through. Worth a download if you fancy a break from all that real crime you are hearing about,

Police Scanner Radio Scanner

Finishing up the list is another all-encompassing police scanning app which offer free access to over 3000 police and radio scanners. Those on offer include channels from all over the world including the US, UK, Japan, Chile and more. Not to mention some of the big Police channels like the LAPD. Again, there is a top 50 category to take you straight to the good stuff if you don’t want to go through the channels manually. If you are looking for a good all-in-one option then this might be the one for you.
