Xiaomi not only released a new handset today, but they announced company’s financial results for last year and also announced that their new flagship will launch on January 15. That being said, let’s focus on the newly announced Redmi 2 handset. This device is a successor to the extremely popular Redmi 1S and it offers a lot for the price. This device is priced at 699 Yuan ($112) in China, which truly is a bargain for such a handset, more on the specs later though.
We’ve already covered the launch of this device extensively, but now we stumbled upon the first camera sample shots in China which we’d like to share with you. If you take a look at the gallery below this article, you’ll find a bunch of images which are said to be taken with the Redmi 2 8-megapixel shooter. The Redmi 1S also featured the 8-megapixel camera on the back, but the Redmi 2 brings a new and improved sensor. This is OmniVision’s BSI sensor (f/2.2 aperture, 28mm wide-angle lens) we’re talking about which can take 10 images per second while it also shoots 1080p video. It sports 5 precision lenses on top of the sensor itself in order to produce the best image possible for such a sensor. The images in the gallery down below look solid, though keep in mind these are leaked photos and we have no way of confirming they’re actually taken by this camera.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 features a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which you can expand via microSD card up to 32GB. This handset is powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 410 quad-core chip clocked at 1.2GHz which ships with an Adreno 306 GPU for graphics rendering. 8 and 2-megapixel shooters are available on the back and the front of this device, respectively. Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed here with Xiaomi’s MIUI 6 OS on top of it. 134 — 67.2 — 9.4mm are the device’s measurements and it weighs 133.
