Wearable tech is becoming more and more popular these days. We’ve seen a ton of wearable gadgets released last year and according to analysts (and common sense), 2015 will be an even bigger year for wearable tech. We’ve seen a ton of smartwatches and smartbands launched in 2014 and CES 2015 didn’t disappoint either. The ongoing Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas produced some great tech for us to slobber over, including a ton of wearables. Garmin had something to say at CES as well, let’s see what U.S.-based company had to share with us.
Garmin is one of the top brands in the stand-alone GPS devices department. This company has been making GPS devices for years now and have been rather successful at it, but even Garmin has to adapt to today’s market considering more and more people use their smartphones as GPS devices and these gadgets are not in high demand as they used to be. The company even tried releasing a smartphone, but that didn’t work out. Garmin is however rather successful in the wearables department, which they’ve been making for a long time now actually. They’ve been making GPS watches for a while now and the company just released a successor of their Garmin VivoFit smartband which was released last year.
The Garmin VivoFit 2 is a fitness band whose battery lasts a whole year and will alert you when it’s about to die. This fitness band has a backlight which will come in handy, no doubt, and it of course has an activity tracker built-in. Stopwatch function is also present and you can personalize your fitness goals, track the amount of calories you’ve burned, etc. This gadget is also water resistant up to 164 feet (50 meters). The VivoFit 2 will be available in various color options and comes in two version, the basic version will cost you $129.99 and the one with a heart rate monitor will be priced at $169.99. Garmin said that they’ll release this device in the first quarter this year, so expect it to hit the market before April. Anyone out there interested in this thing?
