Google+ gets updated to v4.9 with Renamed Sections and More!

Google+ just got a nice little update. It brings in a few marquee features, but nothing too crazy. One of those is the ability to swipe down to refresh a post, instead of just your feed or notifications. Which is a pretty neat feature, especially if you’re on a post that is really popular, and getting a lot of comments. Another new thing in this version of Google+ is that some of the sections have been renamed. “Everything” has been renamed to “Home”. And “My Circles” and “My Communities” have been changed to just “Circles” and “Communities”. Sounds about right. In the settings, you’ll see that the headers have gotten some change as well. They now have a nice bright blue color. Not quite the holo blue that we all know so well from Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean, but it does look quite nice.

That’s literally about all that’s new in this version of Google+. So it’s kind of a big update, but in terms of the changelog, not really. We do have the APK though, for those that are interested in sideloading it and getting the update right away. That link is down below. For those that haven’t sideloaded an app before, let’s explain it. Basically you’re going to download the linked APK onto your smartphone or tablet. Then you are going to go into Settings and tap on Security and make sure “Unknown Sources” is enabled. Once that is done. Tap on the APK file and tap Install. It’ll take a few seconds, but should be installed before long. It will be replacing the older version of Google+ that is on your device. Just as a heads up.

So how is everyone liking this update? If you like or dislike it, be sure to sound off in the comments below. We love hearing from our readers.
