Although the HTC Desire Eye may not be everyone’s idea of a top tier phone, it does have some strengths, like the 13MP front and rear cameras that come along with a list of cool features and camera effects. One of those being the crop-me-in feature which allows users to crop themselves into photos that they took of other random things. Like a landscape for example. Got a great shot of the water at the beach but wish you were in it? This is where HTC’s crop-me-in goes to work and splices you into the photo. Pretty cool right?
How it actually works is by taking a selfie shot with the front facing camera, which you can then place into another photo that was taken with the rear facing camera and transform it into one seamless shot like you were in the photo from the beginning. This is just one of many new camera features that HTC embedded into the Desire Eye, and now through the HTC camera app update that’s rolling out it’s available for HTC One M8 owners too. We’re not sure how the images will compare to those of the Desire Eye as the ffc on the M8 is clearly lower quality than the one on the Eye, but at least the effect is there.
It’s been stated that this is a beta version of the feature so that tells us that users should expect some sorts of improvements to be done over time, but if you have an HTC One M8 you should try and update your camera app and see for yourself how well it works. HTC had mentioned that crop me in was just one of the new camera features that would be coming to the camera app back when they announced it with the Desire Eye, so look out for more of those new camera effects to come in future updates, and they also stated it would be arriving before the update to Lollipop. Now that crop me in is here, Lollipop could be just around the corner, not to mention that if HTC lives up to their word, the 90 day promise of Android 5.0 is nearly here so it shouldn’t be too much longer now.
