HTC's First Fitness Band to Launch With the M9 During MWC 2015?

HTC often releases their devices for the year ahead during the first quarter of the year, and it looks like 2015 isn’t going to be any different. Right now, we’ve been seeing a lot of leaks of the HTC One M9 and so far it looks like the Taiwanese company to iterate on last year’s design, while improving their camera to a 20-megapixel sensor. The company has a press conference scheduled for March 1st, and we’ll be there to bring you guys all of the news as it happens, but word coming from Forbes is that HTC will have their first fitness band to release alongside the M9.

Whether or not HTC even release the M9 during Mobile World Congress is something that’s still up in the air right now, but it does seem likely this time around considering the March 1st date. We’ve all been wondering when HTC will enter the wearable market, and it looks like Q1 2015 is to be the time. During CES earlier this month, HTC and Under Armour came forward to announce a partnership between the two, with HTC to produce activity trackers as part of the deal. It’d seem that Under Armour’s UARecord service is to be the main focus of this upcoming fitness band, but I doubt HTC will make that the only service compatible.

With competition in the fitness tracker space both dense and fierce, it’ll be interesting to see how HTC fare with the likes of Samsung, Fitbit, Jawbone and Misfit all offering some of the most advanced – and in the case of the Jawbone 3, the most fashionable – fitness trackers available. HTC has tried to branch out with other products before, with the launch of the handheld Re camera launching last year, and while the company doesn’t exactly have oodles of cash to play with, it seems like HTC is keen to build up an ecosystem of sorts. Do you think HTC has what it takes to produce a quality fitness tracker, or are they simply too late to the party?
