I am a huge fan of the crowd-funding service Kickstarter. The one thing that has been lacking for me is the absence of an Android app. That is about to change it seems, as Kickstarter is looking to hire an Android engineer to create a new app. It is about time!
Kickstarter is an international funding platform for new and innovative ideas. Launched on April 28, 2009 and based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, it allows the creators of independent projects to pitch their project to would be supporters in an effort to have them invest personal funds in the project. Kickstarter charges a 5% fee on the funds generated. These investments usually come with some kind of perk, such as the ability to purchase an item at a lower cost or to gain some sort of exclusive item or upgrade. If a creator fails to make good on its project, investors are not billed. It is an amazing way to fuel innovation and public interest.
According to Kickstarter’s webpage (Source link below), they are looking to hire their first Android engineer to create its long overdue Android application. This application is expected to pair with the current IOS application that Kickstarter has offered for a few years. This will place Kickstarter in the hands of millions of users and should help to fund more projects and fuel further innovation.
With Android being the most popular operating system around, it is a wonder Kickstarter has taken so long to offer a native Android application.
