LAVA is a pretty big name in India when it comes to smartphones, and just like other manufacturers in the region, LAVA has to cater to a wide range of budgets and above all offer value for money. Their new device in their Iris lineup, the Iris Alfa seems to offer good value for money, while offering a pretty decent experience. The new smartphone costs just RS 6,550 and features a 5-inch display and a quad-core CPU, but where the Iris Alfa is hoping to be a hit with customers is in its looks.
Under-the-hood, there’s not much to the Iris Alfa – there wouldn’t be at this price – but the 5-inch 720p display is a ‘Full Lamination’ display, so that effect of feeling like the display is far away from the touchscreen shouldn’t be there. It’s also an IPS display so should have good viewing angles and color reproduction. There’s a generic 1.2 Ghz quad-core CPU backed up with 1GB of RAM, as well as 8GB of expandable storage onboard. One disappointing part of the Iris Alfa however is its cameras, with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a VGA front-facing camera hardly wowing us. Other smartphones from Indian manufacturers have made a point of shipping devices with cameras much better than these, but then the price tag is a lot lower than other devices.
This is a good-looking phone though, and it’s pretty clear that this is what LAVA were going for with their latest Iris device. Speaking of the launch, Navin Chawla, Vice President & Head of Product for LAVA International, said that the Alfa is for “people who aspire to own a smartphone that looks good and has best in class features at an affordable price.” It’s available starting today, January 19th, and should be available throughout retail stores and eBay.
