2015 is the year when several Indian carriers launch 4G LTE coverage across the country and because of this, many manufacturers are scrambling to launch LTE-enabled devices into the region. Lenovo is the latest manufacturer to release a 4G LTE smartphone for Indian customers, the A6000. The new device is based around a 5.0-inch, 720p resolution display and a 1.2GHz, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, which is backed up by 1GB of memory. The Snapdragon 410 is a new generation, 64-bit processor and the follow-up to the hugely successful Snapdragon 400, which has powered a number of Lenovo smartphones and tablets over the last eighteen months or so. The A6000 has 8 GB of internal storage together with a MicroSD slot, a rear mounted 8 MP camera, a 2 MP front camera and runs Android 4.4 KitKat under the Lenovo Vibe 2.0 user interface. There’s a 2,300mAh battery under the slim and lightweight chassis (8.2mm and 128g respectively). As with many Indian smartphones, the A6000 is a dual-SIM device and will be available in black at launch.
Looking through the specification, the A6000 appears to be a fairly typical mid-range smartphone. The weakest part appears to be the comparatively small sized battery, which has to power a 5.0-inch display, and perhaps Lenovo using Vibe 2.0 as the interface (and personally, I prefer stock). The A6000 has the same screen and battery size combination as the LG Nexus 5, but it has fewer pixels to move around the display and a newer generation processor. Writing of the processor, let’s chalk up another device powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, which is the lower-range 64-bit processor. The 410 is reputed to be around 25% quicker than the outgoing Snapdragon 400 whilst simultaneously sipping less battery: it has quickly become the most popular 64-bit processor across the industry with competitor chipsets from MediaTek so far failing to gain traction.
The A6000 sells for $169 in the United States, which is a little under 11,000 Rs. Lenovo has already said that it’ll be sold at less than the Redmi Note 4G and YU Yureka when it’s launched later this month in India. Flipkart have the exclusive deal on the handset. If you are looking for an inexpensive 4G LTE-capable device, would you be interested in the A6000? Would the Vibe 2.0 user interface put you off, or the small battery?
