We have some pretty exciting news from LG for those of you who are fans of curved displays. LG is supposedly planning to unveil the successor to their LG G Flex smartphone at CES this year, which is right around the corner. As many of you know, the G Flex is LG’s smartphone that possesses a pretty unique feature, a very curved display. Of course this curved display came with a few sacrifices, the biggest one being screen resolution.
This news comes from a Korean website by the name of Naver, Naver also includes some supposed juicy details about the upcoming LG G Flex successor. The device will supposedly be packing a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor with LTE-A connectivity and tri-band aggregation. These two specs, if they prove true, a definitely considered high-end and would be great in LG’s upcoming curved smartphone but there is one thing that seriously worries us, display resolution. Rumor is that this new upcoming device will be slightly smaller than the original LG G Flex and in turn offer a higher pixel density which is arguably good news. Question is, will this slightly smaller display be enough to offer a good enough screen resolution to compete with existing and upcoming flagship smartphones.
At the moment there are already smartphones that have been on the market for many months that possess displays with a 2K resolution. This resolution is only going to go higher in 2015 and if LG throws a high-end smartphone on the market with a 1080p display, it is going to suffer a bit. Sure, most regular smartphone buyers probably can’t tell the difference between a 2K display and a 1080p display but tech-savvy users can and they are the target audience for this device. A curved display comes with a higher cost to the consumer, tech-savvy users are the ones who are going to hand over the extra cash to purchase a device like that because it means more to them.
