Wireless internet may very well be the majority way we get our internet consumption these days, but how many of us are actually thinking about the future of wireless connectivity? It may not be on our minds as users but it’s certainly a priority for MediaTek as they have just announced on January 7th at CES 2015, that they are going to be driving forward the future of wireless connectivity with their brand new MT7615 SoC. MediaTek is calling this the most advanced chip for WiFi connectivity, allowing them to create benchmark in premium WiFi so they can give greater wireless coverage for local home networks while also giving enterprise class security for enterprise users.
With the MT7615, MediaTek has designed the wireless connectivity SoC for maximum throughput over both short and long range via 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels, all thanks to the capability and low power consumption support of the chip. MediaTek states that they have also designed the MT7615 to feed the same user experience whether or not there is a single user or multiple users, so the wireless throughput shouldn’t degrade even if multiple people in the home are accessing the network.
MediaTek states that “This latest Wi-Fi product by MediaTek is the industry’s most powerful and energy-efficient SoC for home routers and enterprise APs. It is a prime example of MediaTek’s dedication to putting high-end, inclusive technology into the hands of everyone.” MediaTek is demonstrating this with the MT7615 which is capable of supporting up to four people simultaneously thanks to the beamforming and MU-MIMO support. MediaTek is focusing on enterprise with the MT7615 too and not just the home user, which is why they have designed the MT7615 with their 4x4x4 technology(4Transmitter, 4Receiver, and 4 Spatial Stream)which gives enterprise users and other companies the ability to make the WiFi user experience for their customers as high grade as possible. MediaTek states that they will begin sampling the MT7615 SoC in the second quarter of this year, with planned mass production times starting sometime in the third quarter of this year. In addition to their goal of delivering the best possible wireless connectivity experience to home and enterprise users, MediaTek is also helping to power other technologies like Sony’s new TV’s running on the Android TV platform, as well as the first wave of Google Cast for audio ready speakers from Sony, Denon and others.
