Motorola Moto G (2013) GPE Gets Pulled From The Google Play Store

Motorola’s Moto G handset has surprised many people when it launched in November 2013, we’re talking about a first-gen Moto G here. This handset has been considered the best buy Android smartphone by many tech sites, and for a reason. This was the perfect budget smartphone, it offered solid specifications while being priced extremely low. The phone came with an almost vanilla version of Android operating system, Motorola did offer some of their own services, but that’s it, no bloat or anything of the sort, which basically let the phone function as it should, and the Snapdragon 400 chip by Qualcomm managed to run this thing buttery smooth.

About a year ago, Motorola has launched the Moto G Google Play Edition (same specs as the regular model), which actually came with stock Android experience, much like Nexus devices. This handset has been discontinued in the Google Play Store. This phone got the Android 5.0.1 update recently and is now marked as “no longer available for sale” in the Google Play Store, both the 8 and 16GB versions of this device. Keep in mind that Google did not specifically say that the device won’t re-appear in the Play Store, but I have a feeling we won’t see that happen, unless the company decides to hold a sale for the device at a reduced price or something like that, we’ll see. You might be able to find the phone offered by a reseller somewhere though, in case you’re interested in getting one now, for some reason, although I’d argue it’s way smarter to get the 2nd-gen Moto G now.

Motorola Moto G (1st-gen) features a 4.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS LCD display along with 1GB of RAM and 8 or 16GB of non-expandable internal storage. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz which ships with an Adreno 305 GPU for graphics rendering. 5-megapixel camera is this device’s main shooter and it is located at the back of the phone, and a 1.3-megapixel snapper is available up front. The phone ships with a non-removable 2,070mAh battery, it measures 129.9 x 65.9 x 11.6mm and weighs 143 grams. If you’d like to know more about the device, visit our Moto G page. Does any one of you still own the Moto G 2013?
