One of the more exciting devices/accessories launched at IFA – way back in September – was a charger by Motorola dubbed the Motorola Turbo Charger. Smartphone and tablet users are constantly concerned about battery life and the time it takes to charge their device once the battery is depleted. Motorola introduced this Turbo Charger as part of their Droid Turbo ‘package’ and one was shipped with each device. For some strange reason it has been on the Motorola website, but purchasing it through the Google Play Store is another matter. Yesterday, it showed up in the US Google Play Store as ‘coming soon’ and today it is making its appearance on the Canadian Play Store site as well…with the same ‘coming soon’ announcement. If you really want one, just go to the Motorola website and make your purchase now and you will receive the same Turbo Charger.
The ability to charge your battery very quickly – up to 6 hours of additional battery life for only a 15-minute charge – is possible because of two ingredients. The first and most important ingredient is that your device must have Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0, which is found in any of their 800 series processors – 800, 801, 805 or 810. The second ingredient is the Motorola Turbo Charger that delivers up to 15 watts of charging power to any USB-enabled smartphone or tablet…the MicroUSB cable comes with the charger for $34.99.
Any device can use the charger, but in order to enjoy the ‘Quick Charge’ benefits you will need a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or higher. This brings up the question why other manufacturers are not promoting a ‘Turbo Charger’ of their own to compete with the Motorola brand. Another question this poses is why didn’t other manufacturers – Samsung or LG – use the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 as part of their marketing ploy? Were the Motorola engineers the only ones that picked up on this fact and told their marketing department?
With everybody worried about battery life, it seems like a great idea to pick up a Turbo Charger – it is one accessory that will keep on giving and giving as long as your device has a microUSB connector. Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know if you will be picking up a Turbo Charger and what device you will be using with it…as always, we would love to hear from you.
