It wasn’t too long ago that we heard about the No.1 X-Men X1, the Chinese manufacturer’s first rugged phone. While details were fairly sparse at the onset of the announcement of the phone, some more poured in a week later along with a pretty incredible video of it getting run over by a car and coming out completely unscathed, working just fine and all. Now it looks like the company is ready to unveil another rugged phone that’s built to withstand the same pressures as the original, except this time around is not only a little bigger but also sports a faster processor to beef up the experience.
The aptly named No.1 X-Men X2 is the topic of discussion today, and it boasts the same rugged looks of its little brother the X-Men X1, as well as all the rugged strength to top it off. Jumping from the 5-inch screen of the X1 up to a sizable 5.5-inch screen the X-Men X2 sits squarely in the phablet category now, giving users more space to work with without being too large for comfort. Most of the time with ruggedized devices the screens come in under 5-inches to keep the device as rugged as possible, but it looks as if No.1 was able to make it happen here as well!
On the inside you’ll find a brand new 4G LTE modem, which will definitely help with those extra web browsing and game playing sessions on the larger screen. That’s a step up from the 3G HSPA modem found in the X1 for reference. Of course who could forget a processor upgrade, which has moved from the MediaTek MT6582 in the X1 up to a 1.3GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916). This is among the first 64-bit chips on the market from Qualcomm and presents a significant upgrade even from the excellent Snapdragon 400 that powers so many entry-level and mid-range phones nowadays. Whether or not this runs a 64-bit version of Android lives to be told but we’ll see soon enough.
At this point we don’t know when No.1 is planning on releasing the phone, or what price it’s going to be. Considering the X1 comes in at under $200 ($185 to be exact) we expect this to be a little bit more since it’s an upgrade in many areas over the original phone. Remember too that this is just as rugged as the original, being listed as IP 68 water and dust proof as well as freeze proof, pressure proof, shockproof, scratch proof and high-temperature proof.
