After a number of wrong moves, Nokia was forced to sell their Devices and Services business to Microsoft. This Finnish company made a lot of mistakes over the years, including their Symbian OS which they didn’t push forward as they should, the MeeGo OS which came too soon and finally the exclusivity agreement with Microsoft which made it impossible for the company to make Android handsets. Nokia was ultimately forced to sell their Devices and Services business to Microsoft and was left high and dry.
This turned out to be a good thing for the company it seems, they hired Foxconn to build devices for them (even though they’re technically not allowed to until 2016 as per their agreement with Microsoft), and have announced the N1 Android-powered tablet last year. This tablet has launched in China this month and has been a success thus far. Nokia has sold out all four batches of the available units in China, and the tablet is due to arrive in Europe next month. These sales actually had a good influence on company’s business and improved Nokia’s Q4 2014 earnings significantly.
We’ve already reported on how the first two batches went, and this is just an updated for the third and fourth batch of N1 devices which were sold out really fast. The next batch of these units won’t be available until February 26th. Nokia will give out protective covers and similar accessories in order to apologize for such a late arrival of the fifth batch. Nokia’s N1 tablet is more or less the best buy Android tablet on the market at the moment, it offers really good specifications and you’ll hardly find a better deal at $257, if only the company could make it available in more markets.
As I already mentioned, the N1 is due to arrive in Europe in February, at least according to the report that was published about a month ago. I hope this is true because if they managed to keep this pricing (will be higher, but I hope not by much), this thing will sell like hotcakes in Europe, guaranteed.
