Original ZenFone 5 Drops to RS 7,999 ($130) for Republic Day

It’s Republic Day in India on January 26th, which means that retailers everywhere this week will be crawling out of the woodwork with some sort of promotion or other. ASUS and Flipkart aren’t to be left out of course, and they’re reducing the ZenFone 5 from RS 9,499 to RS 7,999. That makes it one of the more affordable handsets in India right now, and also one of the better value smartphones from a namebrand. Many of you might have already purchased a ZenFone or been looking for a reason to pull the trigger. This latest price drop might well be the best reason to do just that.

This version of the ZenFone 5 is the Intel powered version with a 1.2 Ghz Atom Z2520 keeping the show running. To go along with that beating heart, there’s a 5-inch 720p display and 8GB of internal, expandable storage as well as Android 4.4 KitKat and ASUS’ ZenUI on top to help users out. We reviewed the ASUS ZenFone 5 LTE last year, and aside from the processor, the two phones are essentially the same. I enjoyed the additions that ASUS had made, and at this sort of price, the ZenFone 5 is a great value device. Even more so now that it’s been reduced down to just RS 7,999 making it perhaps the only device to realistically give the Moto G something to worry about.

You can purchase the device at this new price right now from Flipkart. Whether or not this becomes the new default price for the ZenFone 5 is unsure, but as all other models currently retail for somewhere between RS 8,999 and RS 9,999 it does look like this is to be a limited offer to celebrate Republic Day only. Nevertheless though, this is a great deal and one that people should certainly think about if they’re in the market for a new, affordable device that doesn’t skimp on features.
