With Mobile World Congress, and a press event from HTC scheduled for March 1st there’s a lot of buzz surrounding upcoming HTC devices. We’ve heard about – and seen – what could be the HTC One M9 earlier this week, but there’s talk of the company releasing two models, with the ‘Plus’ model seemingly breaking from cover this morning. A Twitter handle by the name of @leaksfly has apparently managed to get their hands on what could be the HTC One M9 Plus, as well as some information regarding its alleged specifications.
According to the leak, the M9 Plus is a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 device powered by the same Snapdragon 810 said to be at the heart of the regular M9, but with 3GB of RAM backing it up. Other than that, there’s little known about this ‘Plus’ model, but from the leaked images it’s clear to see that this includes the DuoCamera that was absent from a leak of the regular M9 said to feature a 20-megapixel sensor. Whether or not HTC decide to ship two models and give the Plus model a new DuoCamera arrangement is unclear, but it would certainly further dilute the ‘One’ branding, if they’re going to use it all in 2015.
This wouldn’t be the first time that HTC has released a giant smartphone however, as the HTC One Max and its 6.0-inch display from 2013 proves. Having said that, the device wasn’t all that well received and we didn’t see an M8 version of the device, so there is some salt required with this latest leak. I’m not so sure I see HTC shipping a device with the DuoCamera again, but it would be a way for them to once again stand out from the pack. HTC traditionally launches their devices earlier in the year rather than later, so we could soon see just what HTC have planned for us in the next couple of months. The question remains though, would a larger HTC One interest people? Especially given the already tall proportions the BoomSound speakers create?
