Rumor: IUNI's Team Is Working On OnePlus' New ROM

OnePlus and Cyanogen aren’t exactly on best terms nowadays. The two companies had a fallout a while back, which resulted in… well, nothing good. Cyanogen signed a contract with Micromax and the first Micromax Cyanogen-powered phone is already out, though it’s not Micromax-branded. This is confusing, I know, but stay with me. Yureka is the phone I’m talking about and it’s manufactured by Yu, which is Micromax-owned company. OnePlus Two quite probably won’t be powered by Cyanogen OS, and OnePlus is working on their own operating system.

According to the newest leak from @leaksfly, OnePlus has hired IUNI’s whole team who built the IUNI OS in order to build a OnePlus ROM. In case you don’t know who IUNI is, this is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer which has manufactured a couple of great devices thus far, like the IUNI U3, which is also their latest flagship. This thing is extremely affordable and it offers some great specifications, but unfortunately you won’t be seeing it in Europe, U.S. or anywhere outside of China anytime soon. This thing is Android-based, but the phone comes without Google services and it’s forked in a way.

If this it true, I actually wonder what will they come up with. IUNI OS is alright, though nothing special, I actually prefer Cyanogen OS over it, but I don’t think it’s fair to compare the IUNI OS to anything at this point considering this is just a rumor and this OS that they’re allegedly building could turn out to be awesome. On the other hand, it might be rather poor, who knows, we’ll just have to wait and see what they come up with, if the rumor is true, that is. That being said, do you think there’s any truth to this? Do you expect Cyanogen’s OS offering to be as good as the Cyanogen OS or at least close to it? It will be hard for OnePlus to match Cyanogen OS right out of the gate, this OS, no matter who builds it, will be new and it will probably take some time for it to become great.
