Rumor: Next OnePlus Will Have Same Sized Screen And Better Performance

One of the most talked about 2014 handsets is the OnePlus One and there have been many reasons for this. OnePlus announced the One has a high end smartphone for an outrageously low price and, better yet, it would run Cyanogenmod out of the box. And by high end, the OnePlus One was based around a 5.5-inch, 1080p display, 2.5 GHz, quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3 GB of RAM, either 16 GB or 64 GB of internal storage, a 13 MP rear camera, 3,100 mAh of battery and LTE connectivity. Because OnePlus are a small manufacturer and presumably to take advantage of mindshare and consumer demand, they pursued a “hunger marketing” method, which meant buyers had to first receive an invitation to buy one before they could part with any cash. OnePlus ran a number of competitions for invites and not all were especially well received by the world at large (the selfie-for-invite was bound to head south, if you know what I mean) but I’m sure all were carefully thought out. Oh, and OnePlus received plenty of coverage!

Now that 2014 is over and done with, we’re looking to see what 2015’s OnePlus handset might yield. We’ve seen rumors that the next generation OnePlus model will have a different sized screen and when Carl Pei sat down with Nick Sutrich, Carl’s response to the screen size question was, “the final product will surprise people.” All bets would appear to be off, then; the latest rumors we’ve seen point to the OnePlus Two having the same 5.5-inch display as the current device but with a higher resolution and the device will offer “better performance.” By higher resolution, QHD (that being 2,560 by 1,440 pixel) is the obvious choice. Maybe OnePlus will switch from a LCD to AMOLED technology? A curved screen? As far as system performance goes, we’ve also seen ongoing rumors that the device will use a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 3,300 mAh battery and run Android 5.0 Lollipop, but these rumors assume that OnePlus will follow a linear evolution of the One. This isn’t a given. Perhaps OnePlus will launch something thinner and smaller? Perhaps the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 won’t be ready in time and they’ll switch to an alternative processor family?

What do our readers want to see from the next iteration of the OnePlus story? Do you want something larger, in a similar vein to the Google Nexus 6? Or do you want something smaller? How about processor and overall performance? Do you hanker for Qualcomm’s 64-bit flagship Snapdragon 810? Or how about something running the Nvidia Tegra X1 instead? Let us know in the comments below.
