Samsung has a large list of devices available for just about every person on the planet. Ranging from the more premium Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series devices that are high-end from head to toe with specs and design, to the entry-level plain old “Galaxy” devices with no letter to denote the series it belongs to. We’ve been hearing rumors about the Samsung Galaxy J series phones that would be presumably launching sometime in the near future, and it seems that Samsung has now made the very first J series device official via their Malaysian website, the Galaxy J1.
This is by all accounts an entry-level device, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be decent. It carries a dual-core processor that clocks in at 1.2GHz, and it’s listed as being powered by an 1850 mAh battery capacity which should give users up to 9 hours of data usage time on 3G, 10 hours of talk time on 3G, 12 hours of data usage time via WiFi, and 40 hours of audio playback. In short, a pretty standard battery, also keep in mind that battery life is going to vary based on how one uses the device. Display size is sadly a little underwhelming for anyone looking to get something high resolution, but remember this is entry level, so the 4.3-inch WVGA screen with 480 x 800 resolution should fit right in with whatever the price will likely end up being, which shouldn’t be an arm and a leg.
RAM and storage size are also both on the low end of the spectrum here, as the Galaxy J1 comes in with only 512MB of RAM and a small 4GB of internal storage space. Luckily Samsung at least included a microSD card slot for expandable storage up to 128GB microSD cards, so that should help on the storage front for users who like to save things like pictures or music. Speaking of pictures, the Galaxy J1 sports a 5MP rear facing camera with LED flash, and a 2MP front-facing camera for selfie shots or video chat. There isn’t any sort of information just yet on when this device will release or at what price, or in what regions. We would wager that this is probably not a handset bound for the U.S., or at the very least not in this exact form.
