Seagate Announces Personal Cloud And Personal Cloud 2-Bay At CES

Today Seagate Announced a new line of hard drives with access to the cloud for wireless storage accessibility, and in conjunction with that Seagate has also announced Personal Cloud, and Personal Cloud 2-Bay devices for easier and more secure access of your media files and documents to give users a little peace of mind. Both devices are great in their own right, but both also offer their own niche. Seagate’s Personal Cloud device provides the “accessibility of cloud storage with the peace of mind that content is stored safely at home,” and works in pair with the Seagate Media app for Android to deliver a media-rich browsing experience with a simple way to playback content.

The Seagate Personal Cloud Drive stores all your content locally, and by way of connection to your local home WiFi router, you can access all of your media content through the cloud like you were connected directly to the drive at home all from the palm of your hand on your Android device with the Seagate media app. Although users can access and store things within their personal cloud, Seagate’s Personal Cloud device also allows users to store content and access content within public cloud storage services like Box, Dropbox, Baidu, Google Drive and others if they wish.

The Seagate Personal Cloud 2-Bay device works much in the same way with similar features, but gives users an additional layer of security by allowing them to automatically make a second backup of the content stored on the device to a separate internal drive bay just in case something goes wrong with the first drive, although Seagate does allow for the device to be reconfigured into a single drive storage experience at any point if the user chooses. Seagate states that both of these devices will be available at retailers like Amazon later this month, with the Personal Cloud coming in three different storage size options of 3TB, 4TB, and 5TB, and the Personal Cloud 2-Bay coming in three different storage size options of 4TB, 6TB, and 8TB for those who need a little extra space. As of now you can order these direct from Seagate, with prices beginning at $169.99 for the 3TB Personal Cloud option. The 4TB and 5TB are $219.99 and $249.99 respectively, and the Personal Cloud 2-Bay will start at $299.99 for the 4TB option or $379.99 for the 6TB otion, with no word yet on the cost of the 8TB model.
