Source Confirms Recent HTC One M9 Leaked Images Were Of A Decoy Test Unit And Not The Final Product

This week has seen an almost endless amount of rumors and speculation regarding the next HTC flagship device, the HTC One M9. Every day (and on some days, hourly) reports have been coming in about leaked specs, images and the likes. In fact, some images this week drew considerable attention, as they seemed to show the HTC One M9 in all its glory. A lot of the attention came from these images seeming to confirm the likeness between the HTC One M9 and last year’s flagship model, the HTC One M8.

Well, the folks over at HTC Source (source link below) have stated that one of their sources (familiar with the matter) has confirmed that the device in the images this week were real. However, they were only images of a decoy test device. That is, they are not the final product and most likely won’t be what is unveiled when MWC in March rolls around. Following on from this, the source does go on to also confirm that the front of the One M9 will feature an edge-to-edge glass panelling. In addition to this, the BoomSound speaker slots will be present on both the top and bottom edges of the device. Interestingly, the source also revealed that the front facing camera of the One M9 will be largely based (in terms of design) on that of the recently released, HTC Desire 826. As such, the camera will be positioned above the display with a large and centrally placed lens.

Unfortunately, we are still none the wiser as to what the rest of the One M9 specs will be. Although the most recent (and consistent) rumors, is that the M9 will come powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor and offering a whopping 20MP shooter on the back. Either way though, this week has been the debate week of the aesthetics of the device and for those that thought the One M9 was looking too similar, to the One M8. Then you should take some solace from today’s news that the leaked images were only of a test device. Presumably, designed to keep us guessing as to what the one M9 will actually look like. Are you happy that they were only decoy images? Unhappy? Let us know.
