T-Mobile Announces Smartphone Equality in Legere's first Vlog

Today, T-Mobile announced Smartphone Equality. It sounds a bit odd, but it’s kinda like John Legere had a dream. Basically in a nutshell it’s allowing everyone to get the same deals on new smartphones. As Legere explains in his Vlog today, most users are not “well qualified” to get that free iPhone or free Galaxy S5. And with the $4 billion that carriers spent on advertising those deals, it was just to get you in the door. Pretty crazy, right? Well T-Mobile is fixing that.

With Smartphone Equality, you can get a new smartphone for $0 down if you don’t have perfect credit. For the record, that’s 750 or higher. Instead, if you’ve been with T-Mobile for 12 months and have paid every single month on time, you will be a “well qualified buyer”. Sounds pretty good, right?

“In today’s world, the smartphone is anything but a luxury. It’s a lifeline. It’s your source of news and information, your compass and your map. It’s how you stay safe and stay connected to family and friends. It’s how you do your banking and how you find a job. In other words, it’s an absolute necessity. The smartphone has become critical to plugging in to economic opportunity and participating in the global conversation.”

This whole Smartphone Equality thing will be starting next week. So if you’re looking to grab a new smartphone, just wait until next week when Smartphone Equality goes into affect. It sounds like it’s a really great idea, and let’s hope that other carriers follow this Uncarrier move as well. Like they did with Jump and Data Stash. You can check out T-Mobile’s John Legere Vlog #1 down below. I hope he does a Vlog every week, it would certainly be entertaining, am I right? So what does everyone think about Smartphone Equality? Is it a good idea? Let us know in the comments below.
