Xiaomi Redmi 1S was one of company’s most successful devices last year. This extremely affordable mid-ranger was sold like crazy, for a reason, it’s a great device. Xiaomi released its successor, the Redmi 2, on January 4, which was less than a week ago. Xiaomi Redmi 2 is definitely a worthy successor to the Redmi 1S, this handset is even cheaper and it not only offers a bump in the specs department but it is also smaller than the Redmi 1S in basically every way. That being said, the device went on sale at noon (local time) today and it took the company 4 minutes and 16 seconds to sell everything they got. According to company’s CEO, Xiaomi had about 120,000 units to sell in this first batch. Xiaomi’s CEO did promise that they’ll do the best they can to provide as many units as possible on a monthly basis, it is expected that the company will offer 200,000 units on a monthly basis.
This China-based smartphone manufacturer has huge plans for 2015, they intend to sell 100 million handsets this year, which is 39 million more than they were able to move last year. The Redmi 2 handset will surely be a big part of that, this handset sells like crazy and Xiaomi really needs to make sure to provide a ton of units to consumers. The company also plans to expand their business outside of Asia, which could bring some extra traffic their way. The Redmi 2 features a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD card up to 32GB. The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz which ships with an Adreno 306 GPU for graphics processing. On the back of this handset, you’ll find an 8-megapixel camera and an LED flash, while there’s a 2-megapixel snapper located on the front side of this device. The handset ships with Android 4.4 KitKat with Xiaomi’s MIUI 6 on top of it and a 2,200mAh battery is a part of this package as well.
