As we move into 2015 and technology continues to advance, we’re going to be seen even more connected home and smart home products that will seek to enrich and improve the experience between us and our living domain. Plenty of companies already offer smart home devices that do a number of different things, and Xiaomi is one of the latest to enter the market with their own smart sensor kit that allows anyone interested in a connected home experience, to monitor, control, and manage different aspects of their home via the connected network supported by the relationship of the smart sensor kit and their smartphones.
The sensor kit is said to have the ability to monitor the motion inside of your home, as well as monitor and manage lights and temperature control all through the use of a companion app which also feeds you notifications on the status of those particular areas. There are included sensors that can be attached to windows and doors for security purposes that alert the homeowner whenever they’re opened. The temperature sensors we assume could also be used to either adapt the temperature manually through an app, or have it automatically be modified when the temperature reaches a certain point.
The motion sensors are just that, a motion sensor, and could potentially be used to automatically turn on surveillance or turn on the alarm after a certain period of time of when motion is detected. The kit, which is in a beta test period with a select number of individuals at this point, also includes a wireless switching sensor which can be used to manage and control appliances as well as other devices through a connection to a local WiFi network and by way of a companion app. The smart sensor kit is also stated to include a battery which doesn’t need replacement until after a 2-year period. So far there isn’t any word on when this will be out of the beta test period or what the cost will be to obtain one when it launches officially. There’s also no word on what the regional availability will be for Xiaomi’s connected home suite, but we’d imagine with their expansion efforts it’s possible we’ll see it available stateside.
