Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, has recently announced that the company will launch their new flagship in January along with announcing their financial results. This China-based smartphone manufacturer has sold approximately 61.2 million smartphones in 2014, which means they basically sold three times as much smartphones compared to the year before and they also met their set goal for 2014 (60 million). Xiaomi intends to move 100 million devices in 2015 and their new flagship will certainly be a big part of that.
Lei Jun once again teased the launch of company’s new flagship via his official Weibo page by saying that there’s no better way to start the year than to announce a flagship device. Let me remind you that Xiaomi already launched the Redmi 2 handset on January 4, which is also a great phone and I’m sure it will sell well. Anyhow, Xiaomi has also officially announced that they’ll hold an event on January 15 at 2 PM (local time) and that the event will be held at the Beijing National Convention Center. The poster released by the company hints at an extremely thin smartphone, which was to be expected. Xiaomi will sell the press conference tickets via Xiaomi’s Mall App for 99 Yuan ($16) and the sale will start on January 8 at 12 PM (local time).
Previous rumors have stated that Xiaomi’s Mi5 handset will sport a 5.5 or a 5.7-inch QuadHD display and that it will ship with 4GB of RAM on the inside. The leaks have also said that the device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 SoC, a 64-bit octa-core processor. 1.75um pixel camera sensor was mentioned along with a fingerprint scanner and NFC connectivity while some rumors also said that the device might sport a 2.5D sapphire glass covering the display (perhaps a special version of this device). Take these spec rumors with a pinch of salt though, they might be a bit over the top, but who knows. I guess we’ll find out on January 15, so stay tuned.
That being said, what do you think this phone will look like? Do you think these spec leaks are accurate? Let us know what you think, we’d love to hear from you.
