Xiaomi Redmi 2 Sporting 2GB Of RAM And 16GB Of Internal Storage Gets Certified In China

After great success in 2014, Xiaomi expects 2015 to be even more successful for them. The company has already released a bunch of devices this year, three smartphones included. Xiaomi has released the Redmi 2 on January 4, along with Mi Note and Mi Note Pro devices which were introduced on January 15. The Redmi 2 is an extremely affordable mid-range offering by Xiaomi, which costs barely over $100 and I’m sure that a lot of people will be interested in purchasing this thing, just like its predecessor, the Redmi 1S. Mi Note and Mi Note Pro handsets are a different story though, both of those handsets belong to the high-end category and offer a lot for the price, not to mention that the Mi Note Pro is quite probably the best specced handset on the planet at the moment.

Anyhow, let’s go back to the Redmi 2. This handset features a 4.7-inch 720p display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable internal storage (up to 32GB). This handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 SoC, a 64-bit quad-core chip clocked at 1.2GHz. This is a really solid offering by Xiaomi which will appeal to many people who are looking for a solid mid-range handset and are not willing to spend a lot buying one. Well, it seems like Xiaomi intends to up the ante a bit here and release another, more powerful, version of the Redmi 2. Xiaomi Redmi 2 with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage had landed on TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC) and got certified. This is the identical device to the original Redmi 2, the only difference is in the RAM and internal storage count. Aside from the aforementioned specs, this thing will also feature an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter. Android 4.4.4 KitKat will come pre-installed on this handset it seems, with Xiaomi’s very own MIUI 6 on top of Google’s OS.

I have to admit that I wasn’t expecting Xiaomi to release another version of the Redmi 2, but that will happen, and it will happen soon. This isn’t just a rumor, this device already got certified and it’s only a matter of time before Xiaomi announces it, if something unexpected happens and they drop the project altogether, which I really doubt they’ll do. Would you be interested in purchasing this handset?
