Yesterday, we reported that AT&T might be looking at increasing the data caps on some of their GoPhone plans as well as adding unlimited calls and text to Mexico. Today, AT&T made that official. According to AT&T, both new and existing customers on their $45 plan will be upgraded from 1GB to 1.5GB of LTE allotment, and customers on their $60 plan will jump from 2.5GB to 4GB of LTE data. Not a bad price at all, especially when you’re looking at this being AT&T’s own prepaid and not an MVNO like Straight Talk. Still interesting to see them keeping GoPhone and Cricket around, when they are both their own prepaid brands.
Both of these plans do get unlimited calling and texting to Mexico, as well as WiFi Hotspot capability. From AT&T’s blog post:
“New and existing GoPhone customers on 1GB plans ($45 per month) will now receive 1.5GB of high speed data2, and customers on 2.5GB plans ($60 per month) will receive 4 GB of high speed data – all at the same price. That’s 50% more data. It’s automatic, at no additional cost and our gift to our customers.
Both the $45 and $60 GoPhone plans include: Unlimited data usage 2. Unlimited nationwide talk and text, including unlimited text to Mexico, Canada and over 100 countries. Wi-Fi hotspot capability”
The unlimited calling and texting to Mexico appears to take place after February 20th, so we’ve got a few days before that takes full effect. Still we’ve got some nice changes to AT&T’s GoPhone plans that are likely to get a few more customers now. The Prepaid marketplace has really started heating up lately. With GoPhone, Cricket, Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, and T-Mobile all getting into heavy competition. Which is great for consumers, especially those that buy their phones off contract or unlocked.
