News headlines are full of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S6 smartphone, we’re seeing tons of rumors and leaks these days and that trend will continue until the thing gets launched on March 1st. We’re not here to talk about Samsung upcoming flagship, but the already available Galaxy S5. Something interesting popped up on Reddit recently regarding the Lollipop update for this thing.
It seems like the binary code for Android 5.0 Lollipop was downloaded into SMART, the re-flash tool Samsung Consultants use. What does this mean? Well, if you take your unrooted Samsung Galaxy S5 handset to one of the Samsung Experience Shops, they will update your handset to the new version of Android in no time. Keep in mind that this information applies to the U.S. only though, the Samsung Experience Shops can be found in Best Buy, though not all of them. That being said, you can also flash this update to your device manually if you’d like, but if you’re not comfortable doing that or familiar with the procedure, we recommend you to wait for the OTA update. This procedure will void your warranty, and there’s always a possibility something will go wrong in case you don’t know what you’re doing, so you can end up with a bricked device.
There you have it, in case you decide to visit one of Samsung’s Experience Shops in order to get Lollipop, let us know how it went. The Lollipop OTA is expected to arrive soon as well, so if you’re not too eager to get it straight away… just hang in there a bit longer. The Galaxy S5 is still a great device, but the launch of its successor is rather close and I’m really interested in seeing what will Samsung announce at their press event in Barcelona on March 1st. We’ve seen a lot of things rumored recently and even the Galaxy S Edge handset has been mentioned plenty of times, the phone which has curved screen on both sides, so we might see this Korean giant launch two devices at MWC in Barcelona.
