HTC has been one of the few companies to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop to its devices in a timely fashion, and while they were beaten to the punch by LG and Motorola, they’re still ahead of the likes of Sony and are holding their own against Samsung, a company well known for their update support. Recently, HTC rolled out the Lollipop update to unlocked and Developer Edition devices in the US, followed by HTC One (M8) devices in Europe and now, the update appears to be rolling out in India right now.
A tip sent to AndroidOS.in tells us that the update is rolling out to Indian users right now, and that the update is fairly large at 574MB in size. The software version you’re looking for is 4.18.720.8 and the changelog is much the same as the one that went out across Europe last week. This will update your device to latest version of Android and bring with it a number of UI changes, the lockscreen and notification styles will look a little different with the new Lollipop style and under the hood there are a number of changes as well. The ART runtime is now the default runtime as of Android 5.0 Lollipop and this should bring with it a slight speed boost, but don’t expect anything major.
The update shouldn’t take too long to roll out, but don’t be surprised if your device hasn’t gotten it just yet. These things do take a few days to roll out to everyone’s device, but if you want to hurry things up a bit you can check for the update manually. To do so, just head to your device settings, then into the ‘About Phone’ menu towards the bottom and then the ‘Software Update’ menu.
