Lava is one of the biggest smartphone OEMs in India. This company constantly releases smartphones, though mostly low and mid-range ones. They recently released the affordable Iris X1 Mini and Iris X1 Grand smartphones and now they’re back with a somewhat more powerful handset. I’m talking about the Lava Iris X8 handset which was revealed on Flipkart yesterday, and now Lava has launched it officially. Anyhow, let’s see what this handset has to offer in terms of specifications.
The Iris X8 features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS display with Asahi Dragontail glass protection along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 32GB). MediaTek’s MT6592M octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz is powering on this thing and we’re talking about a dual-SIM handset here. 2,500mAh battery is also a part of this package and this is a 3G HSPA+ handset, no 4G LTE available here. 8-megapixel camera (BSI 3 sensor) is located on the back of this device and flanked by a dual-LED flash, while a 3-megapixel snapper can be found on the front side of this thing. Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed on this handset and Lava said that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is on its way. 70.9 x 143.4 x 8.6mm are the measurements of this device and it weighs 160 grams. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB OTG are also available here.

The Lava Iris X8 will be available in Black and White color options and will cost Rs. 8,999 ($146) for those of you who decide to get a copy. The Intelligent Flip cover is also a part of this package and you’ll get it alongside the phone itself. This cover actually offers some additional functionality, it will give you access to music, calling, camera, messaging… without the need to turn on the screen. This device will be available across India and exclusively online via Flipkart starting on February 9th (12PM local time).
