Motorola Posts Up The Android Lollipop Kernel Source Code For The Moto X 2nd Gen.

Software updates from the user side of things aren’t the only important piece to the equation, developers look forward to the kernel sources for Android software updates just as we look forward to the updates hitting our devices. Motorola was among the first manufacturers to start updating their devices to the latest Android version of software, Android Lollipop, having begun that process last year but up until today they hadn’t posted up the kernel source for the software of their 2014 Moto X so that developers might be able to get their hands on it. While this won’t mean much for people that are end users, the kernel source can help developers with troubleshooting bugs and various other things regarding the software on Motorola devices.

Motorola has published the kernel source up to the github as of now so any developers looking to get a hold of it and begin working with it for any reason now have the option to do so, you just need to head to the github and grab the files for yourselves. As noted above this is strictly kernel source for the 2014 Moto X device so if you’re a developer who has no need or desire to work with the kernels for this particular phone there’s no need to download it.

The kernel source code will be of more general use for anyone looking to work with, troubleshoot or fix bugs on custom ROMs as well as Motorola based apps for the Moto X 2014. There are two files which Motorola posted two days ago, both being for Android Lollipop version 5.0.2. One is listed as MMI-LXE22.46-25 under the name Victara, and the other is listed as MMI-LXB22.46-28 under the name Motorola. Not all Motorola Moto X devices have gotten the update to Android lollipop of course, like the AT&T model for example which seems to have just started soak testing for their version of the phone as of just a couple of days ago. If you’re wanting to download the files for the Lollipop 5.0.2 kernel source you can do so by hitting the source link below which will take you to the page for the listed downloads. Both the files mentioned above will be listed towards the top under the names listed here.
