Invites for an NVIDIA event scheduled for the 3rd of March have started making the rounds, sparking speculations about what’s coming from the popular fabricator, best known for its computer graphics cards. No one really knows what the March 3rd event in San Francisco will bring, but word is that it’s going to be the successor to the popular NVIDIA Shield tablet. If you aren’t aware, the Shield tablet was launched with a Tegra K1 quad-core processor, and was aimed specifically for gamers with a more powerful than standard GPU on offer. The device went on sale last July, so it is possible that folks at the company think it is time for an upgrade.
What’s for certain is that the new tablet will have a more powerful, robust chipset (could it be the Tegra X1?) that will again invariably target the section of the audience that indulges mostly in gaming. According to the invite and company CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, the product that the company will exhibit something that has been “5 years in the making” that will “redefine the future of gaming”. Well, 5 years in the making sounds a little far fetched, I’m certainly hoping that those 5 years were spent in design; even Moore will disagree if that’s how long you spend making a chipset!
Jokes apart, if it is indeed the next generation Shield tablet coupled with the Tegra X1 chipset, it is certainly going to be a force to be reckoned with. There have, however, been reports about the fact that the next generation NVIDIA Shield tablet would not release in March, but this invite seems to hint otherwise. However, there isn’t a long time to go before we actually get to the scheduled event date… which to be specific is only about 22 days away from now. I’m personally hoping to see the Shield 2 (or whatever NVIDIA decides to call it), but given the fascination tech companies have developed for suspense, I wouldn’t be surprised if the event ends up with a completely different product launch!
