One of the real showstopping pieces of tech which landed last year was the collaboration between Samsung and Oculus in way of the Samsung Gear VR. This was their take on virtual reality and although limited in its device compatibility (currently only the Samsung Galaxy Note 4), anyone can developer apps and games for it. In fact, if you are a developer and fancy giving VR apps and games a try then there has never been a better time. That is because Oculus have now announced their Oculus Mobile VR Jam 2015.
If you are interested then it seems the prize money up for grabs is a grand total of $1,000,000. That said, the price is not all for one winner. Instead, the price is the combination for two different category entries. You can either into the “apps and experience” category or into the “games” category. Winners will be picked from both and share in the overall one 1,000,000 prize fund and there will be four tiers of winners from each category, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. It is also worth mentioning that the game winners seem to be in the running for the higher prize with the first place ‘Platinum’ winner for games scoping $200,000 while the Platinum winner for apps/experience scoping $100,000. The remaining money will be distributed to the lesser tiered winners on a sliding scale. You can sign up for the competition now which will run between April 13th and May 11th.
However, it is not that simple. There are a few dated milestones in place which will need to be met to ensure you stay in the running. Following on, milestone three will be ‘Video’ where you will have to submit a demo video of your app/experience or game and this will have to be submitted by 9am (PT) on May 4th.
