Xiaomi’s growth rate is incredible, and so is company’s appetite for success. This China-based smartphone manufacturer sold 61 million smartphones in 2014, and they want to outdo themselves this year and move 100 million devices. In order to do that, Xiaomi has already released 3 new smartphones, and some additional smart gadgets. They also intend to expand outside of China this year, India and Brazil have been mentioned as possible destinations thus far, and the company will hold an event in San Francisco on February 12. We still don’t know what’s the event about, but considering it is taking place in the U.S., it either means the company will start offering some of their devices there, open up an R&D facility or partner up with a U.S.-based firm. Either way, we’ll find out soon.
That being said, it looks like Xiaomi will open up shop in India soon. There have been some reports that the company is planning to open up their own webshop over there and stop selling devices through Flipkart, and now we get some additional information about this whole deal. According to the latest report, Xiaomi is set to start manufacturing phones in Chennai, India, through Inventec. The reports states that Xiaomi will start manufacturing smartphones over there in Q2 or Q3 this year, if everything goes according to plan of course. Hugo Barra himself even said at the Mi4 launch in India that it is essential for Xiaomi to manufacture phones in India if they want to become a true Indian company, which is also a dead giveaway.
We still don’t know which devices this Chinese company intends to manufacture in India though, but I’m more than certain that we’ll hear more about this in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that. It is logical for Xiaomi to open up shop in the second biggest smartphone market in the world, this will be a huge thing for the company. As I already mentioned, we can expect Xiaomi to give us out some details regarding the Latin American market soon as well, Xiaomi’s CEO did say that they will announce their plans in February, so we’ll know everything soon enough.
