There has been a lot of speculation on when Sony might be unveiling their new devices in the Xperia Z line, which would be the Xperia Z4, Xperia Tablet Z4, the Xperia Z4 Compact, and likely an Xperia Z4 Tablet Compact. Normally Sony has their devices on a 6 month release cycle, and this year it has been a little more unclear if Sony would be sticking to that same time frame for device launches. There have a good number of rumors on Sony’s next devices and that includes the possible announcements for the device at the upcoming Mobile World Congress, as well as Sony perhaps waiting till the end of the year and announcing a new device again in the Fall at IFA like they did with the Xperia Z3 family of devices.
So far we haven’t really gotten an official look at anything from the Xperia Z4 line, until now it seems as Sony has posted something in the Xperia Lounge app for the Xperia Z4 Tablet, asking users to “Discover the Xperia Z4 Tablet by Sony” which states that they are now introducing the new Xperia Z4 tablet and that it comes with a 2K screen, which is definitely higher resolution than any of their previous devices. It also states the tablet is combined with “the latest ultra fast processor,” but makes no mention of exactly which processor that is, so we have to wonder if it will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. If it is, Sony will have finally released a device that is packed with a current piece of hardware alongside other flagship devices, unlike the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 which were both running older processors compared to the competition that had a launch around the same time.
Like Sony’s Xperia Z3 lineup, we can expect the Xperia Z4 tablet to have stellar battery life and come with their signature water proof and dust proof features. This Xperia Lounge screenshot also shows off a date of March 3rd, which may be taken to mean that they indeed could be looking to show off the device at Mobile World Congress. Whether or not they show off the Xperia Z4 with it is uncertain, but we don’t expect they’d show off a new tablet from the line without showing off the phone as well. What do you think? Looking forward to what Sony has to show us next week?
