Sony's Xperia E4 Up for Pre-Order for £99.99 in the UK

Sony’s Xperia E4 was only announced by the company earlier this week, but it’s already getting its first price and has gone up for pre-order over at Clove UK already. The device is far from Sony’s most exciting product, but it’s their first of 2015 and is a definite contender for the Moto G and Moto E, and its price tag pretty much confirms that as well. It’s also the first Xperia device to feature a much more curvy design when compared to other Xperia devices, including its predecessor the Xperia E3.

The Xperia E4 was announced earlier this week with a 5-inch 960 x 540 display, a fairly old MediaTek CPU and 1GB of RAM as well as 5-megpixel cameras around the front and rear. The highlight of the device is not so much its fairly mediocre spec sheet, but more the fact that Sony is promising the same two-day battery life they promise on the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. This is in part due to the fact that the Xperia E4 features a massive (for this size of smartphone) 2,300 mAh battery and the MediaTek CPU is a quad-core Cortex A7 affair, which is designed to be more power-efficient than it is a powerhouse performer.

Clove UK have a pre-order page up for the E4 in either black or white for just £99.99, which translates to about $153US which is about what I thought it’d be priced at. To put things into perspective, the Moto E from Motorola retails for £94 on Clove UK, so this is pretty decent price from Sony here. It’s running Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but it is slated to get an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop and it’ll feature many of the same things people like about Sony’s software. Other than that though, we’re looking at a fairly run-of-the-mill device with little to shout home about. For someone’s first smartphone, or for those who are waiting out a contract or something, this is far from the worse at this sort of price point.
