As expected, and as was leaked a few weeks ago, Sprint started rolling out the Lollipop update to it’s LG G3 today. The update is very large, so you’re going to want to be sure you’re on WiFi before you start downloading it. There’s also a chance that Sprint will only let you download it on WiFi (they’ve done that before). As far as the changelog goes, here’s what we’ve got:
“Material Design for fluid animation, multicolored themes and 3D views. More efficient battery use. Androidâ„¢ TV support. Notifications on the lock screen and customizable options with prioritized notifications for events, reminders, messages and calls. Updated Lock Screen features allow users to quickly access notifications and active apps. Enhanced low vision and color blind capabilities for added Accessibility. Integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities. Enhanced Messaging with Google Hangoutsâ„¢ support for SMS and MMS and a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons. Upgraded Google Mobile Serviceâ„¢ apps automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.”
There’s no word on the exact size of the OTA right now, but it looks like it might be around 700MB or larger. We’ve seen other Lollipop updates come in at the 700MB mark, so that’s probably a good estimate. If you are on Sprint and have a LG G3, head into the Settings tap on About Phone and Check for your update. You should be able to grab it without any issues. If you are able to get the update and install it, let us know how you are liking the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and let us know if you notice any UI changes, I don’t really expect any since it’s still LG’s Optimus UI on top of Lollipop. But let us know in the comments below.
