Sunrise Calendar Gets New Update Complete With Tablet Optimizations And New Calendars

Sunrise Calendar has gotten a little update today, bringing in some new features set to further enhance the capabilities of this cross-platform calendar. This was already a great, and useful tool, which is why it makes sense that Microsoft might be interested in purchasing Sunrise Calendar for a rumored $100 million price tag. The new update is essentially being referred to by Sunrise as a new app for tablets, but it isn’t a separate app listing so it’s really an update with tablet optimization. In Sunrise Calendar’s short blog post they gloss over the few new features, but it seems they evaded any explanation over the rumor about Microsoft giving them a hefty $100 million dollars, or any other large amount of cash for the buyout.

It’s not too likely that this update has anything to do with a potential buyout from the Redmond, WA based software company, but Microsoft does have a keen interest in tablets it would appear as they’re recently released, and fully featured Office For Android apps are tablet compatible only, so just for the sake of humoring my crazy theories that have no basis or foundation at all, perhaps Microsoft is in talks to buy Sunrise Calendar and wanted to make sure there were proper tablet based optimizations in place.

Perhaps that isn’t the case at all and users of Sunrise could have just been clamoring for the addition of some tablet optimized features, which is more likely the case and seems way more logical. As part of the new features that fall in with the tablet optimizations, users now have the ability to add in calendars from over 25,000 different categories including sports teams, name days,(Game of Thrones anyone?)week numbers, holidays and a ton more. All calendars are capable of being added at no cost to the user, and there’s no limit to how many calendars you can add in. If you feel the need and have the time to add in all 25,000 calendars, do so. Sunrise Calendar also now integrates with and connects to Google Tasks and Eventbrite, so if you use either of those apps, Sunrise Calendar just became a little more useful to you. The update is live so you should be able to grab it from the Play Store at any time whether you’re actually updating or installing for the first time as a new user.
