Vodafone Australia Confirms Android 5.0 Lollipop to Be Tested This Month

While Sony didn’t have anything to show off during CES 2015 on the mobile front, they did let us know that Android 5.0 Lollipop is on its way to the Xperia Z lineup. First up will (naturally) be the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3, which both currently run Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Sony is certainly taking longer than Motorola, Samsung and even HTC to roll out these updates, but considering Sony’s updates are often fairly solid with few issues (in my experience at least) the wait might be well worth it. For our Australian readers though, there’s a little progress update where Lollipop is concerned, especially if you’re on Vodafone.

As XperiaBlog is reporting, Vodafone Australia has updated their progress page for the Android 5.0 update and while the HTC One (M8) is listed as being in testing right now, both the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 are listed as “awaiting software for testing, expected in Feberuary”. So, while this isn’t the best news, it is indeed progress of some sort, but we have to wonder if the software doesn’t arrive until the middle of February, how long will it take for the update to actually hit people’s phones? Hopefully, Sony and Vodafone can come together to roll this update out nice and quickly.

Nobody likes waiting for updates, and as an Xperia Z2 user myself, I am getting a little itchy waiting for Lollipop to reach my device. Having said that, I would much rather wait for a quality update, rather than a speedy turnaround on something sub-standard. Our own Kristijan Lucic had major memory problems with Lollipop on his stock Nexus 5, so it just goes to show that being first isn’t always the best thing. With this little bit of news, it’s more likely that the Lollipop update is to roll out in early March, at least where Vodafone Australia is concerned. Let us know in the comments if you’re waiting patiently, or just plain fed up of all the waiting.
