We saw leaks about this new Chromebook from Acer. Well it’s not really new, but a newer model of the Chromebook 15 they announced back in January. This is the C910, which goes along with the C740 they announced at CES. This new model features the Intel Core i5-5200U processor, which makes it the fastest and most powerful commercially available Chromebook to date. The C910 does still promise 8 hours of battery life. Along with WiFi 802.11 AC using MIMO technology. Acer has also added full-sized upward facing speakers for better volume and clarity. We also have Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0 and a USB 2.0 port along with a HDMI port, and a SD Card slot. Acer is touting that the C910 model weighs in at just 4.85 pounds, while measuring 393 x 256 x 24.2 mm. It’s by no means, a small laptop, or Chromebook.
“The new faster performing Acer C910 Chromebook with an Intel Core i5 processor is raising the bar for Chromebook performance,” said Carlos Siqueiros, mobility business manager, Acer America. “The advanced technology will boost productivity and help our education and commercial customers get the most out of their Chromebook experience for collaboration on important projects and research.”
The Acer C910 Chromebook 15 will be available in April for $499.99. It’ll bring along with it 4GB of RAM and 32GB of SSD storage. As usual, exact availability, and specs will vary by region. Don’t forget that you also get 100GB of Google Drive space for free for two years with a Chromebook purchase. The Acer C910 joins Acer’s very large lineup of Chromebooks in all kinds of price ranges. Acer now has a Chromebook that sites in just about every price segment from under $200 to now $500, with varying specs, features and screen sizes.
Interesting that Acer is calling this the most powerful “commercially available” Chromebook. Since the Chromebook Pixel is more powerful with the Intel Core i7 inside, but I’m guessing Acer isn’t expecting Google to make to many of those at that price. And actually it’s out of stock right now, so they are probably right. An Intel Core i5, along with 4GB of RAM, how much more power do you need in a Chromebook.
